Yesenia Aguilar was a California Disneyland employee and a mother-to-be who was killed on Tuesday after an intoxicated driver jumped a curb on Katella Avenue near Bayless Street and struck Aguilar while she was out for a walk with her husband, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
23-year-old Aguilar was eight months pregnant, according to the Register Medical staff managed to save her unborn daughter via an emergency C-section, and the DA’s office said the infant was in critical condition as of Thursday night, the newspaper reported.
Yesenia Aguilar Killed By Driver While Out For a Walk
This week, Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer lashed out at a driver, identified as 40-year-old Courtney Pandolfi who is accused of killing a pregnant California woman, following the incident on Tuesday.
According to prosecutors, the Jeep driver crashed through a metal newspaper stand before hitting Aguilar, as Pandolfi continued to drive down the sidewalk until her vehicle “became disabled”. The collision occurred just after 7:30 pm.
Aguilar’s husband, who was also out for a walk with her, reportedly performed CPR on her before she was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The medical staff was hopeful for the baby’s survival after a respiratory tube was removed Thursday and the infant, named Adalyn Rose, was breathing on her own, KABC-TV of Los Angeles reported.
Yesenia Aguilar’s Death Under Investigation
Courtney Pandolfi, a Garden Grove woman accused of killing Aguilar in an Anaheim crash, was warned three separate times, during multiple DUI convictions, of the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs.
Todd Spitzer said in a statement of Pandolfi’s latest DUI arrest who was taken to a hospital soon after being struck on a sidewalk, after driving on a suspended license.
She now faces murder and other charges following previous DUI convictions in 2008, 2015, and 2016.
Pandolfi appeared in court Thursday as she is expected to return to court on September 4.
