Vanessa Ceja-Ramirez was an Illinois woman who was found dead after being reported missing. according to authorities, she had been raped, beaten, strangled and set on fire.

Her body was found Wednesday and the Cook County coroner said her death was “beyond gruesome”.

Vanessa Ceja-Ramirez Missing Reports

Volunteers joined the search for Ceja-Ramirez after she disappeared while walking with her mother on a trail in the preserve on Monday, according to reports.

Ceja-Ramirez told her mother and the friend that she was tired and would meet them back at the car, reports say.

They called police after finding some of her clothes but not her, the station reported. After the disappearance, Ceja-Ramirez’s phone pinged at an apartment complex in Oak Forest, an address 3 miles from the preserve, according to the station.

Vanessa Ceja-Ramirez Death News

The body of Ceja-Ramirez turned up in the Midlothian Meadows preserve on Wednesday. She had vanished on Monday while walking with her mother on a trail in the preserve.

“She was beaten, partially burned and someone intercepted her, and possibly pulled her into a wooded area and basically tortured her,” community activist Andrew Holmes told the station.

What we know so far

A search investigation has been launched Friday night for the killer who attacked and killed Ceja-Ramirez in a south suburban Cook County forest preserve.

It is still unclear whether she was targeted by someone she knew or if a stranger targeted her. Her body was later discovered at the Midlothian Meadows Forest Preserve.

Andrew Holmes distributed flyers announcing a $2,000 reward for tips leading to an arrest.

The Cook County sheriff’s office is conducting a death investigation.

Vigil

Ceja-Ramirez’s loved ones gathered Wednesday night for a vigil in Harvey, where they remembered her as a college student and teacher’s aide who was the light of her family and community.
