Tony “TJ” Wiggins
Tony “TJ” Wiggins is a convicted man with 230 felonies, who has reportedly been arrested over shooting down the three best friends near a lake in the central Florida community of Frostproof on Friday night, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said.
He was on his way to the nighttime fishing spot with his girlfriend, 27-year-old Mary Whittemore, and brother, 21-year-old Robert Wiggins on Friday evening.
The three victims, who’d set out to go fishing from Tillman in a local Dollar General store Friday, were overheard by the three suspects. TJ had wanted to confront Springfield over ‘some kind of truck deal’, Sheriff Judd said.
Victims Were Going Fishing, Authorities say
According to a statement from the sheriff’s office, the surveillance video showed one of the victims making purchases at the store and a clerk told investigators that Tillman said he was going fishing.
Robert Wiggins revealed to detectives that he saw Tillman at the Dollar General store Friday night while standing in line with his brother, the sheriff’s office said.
Victims Shot By Tony “TJ” Wiggins While Leaving for Fishing
Ten minutes after Tillman left the store, Rollins called his dad for help.
While Robert Williams was driving a truck with his brother TJ and Whittemore, TJ Wiggins instructed him to follow the victims, “making a U-turn and follow the tracks”, the sheriff’s office said.
When they reached a rural area of Frostproof, about a 75-mile drive east of Tampa, TJ got out and screamed at the victims, punching one of them and accusing him of stealing his truck, citing the younger brother.
After the victims exited their truck, Robert watched his brother TJ shooting all three victims, and being asked to assist his brother to get one of the victims into the back of one of the trucks.
The three killed friends were found by Cyril Rollins, the father of Brandon, who managed to call for help just before his death, sheriff Judd said
Tony “TJ” Wiggins Ordered McDonald’s Fast-Food
After killing the three best friends, the suspects drove to a McDonald’s fast-food restaurant, where they ordered 10 double cheeseburgers and two chicken sandwiches, and went home to eat, the sheriff’s office said.
The next morning, Robert Wiggins took his truck to a car wash and cleaned it, according to the sheriff’s office.
Tony “TJ” Wiggins Under Investigations
Ammunition, which is believed to be the same ammunition fired from the Smith & Wesson handgun used in the killings, was found during the search of TJ Wiggins’ trailer similar to shell casings found at the crime scene, the sheriff’s office said.
Earlier on July 9, Whittemore made the purchase of the handgun accompanied by TJ Wiggins, investigators obtained the receipt confirming the purchase.
On Monday, detectives searched a plot of land where TJ Wiggins, a convicted felon, and Whittemore lived in a travel trailer in Lake Wales, Florida, authorities said.
TJ Wiggins, with 230 felony charges, 15 convictions, and two stints in state prison, is taken into custody on charges of first-degree murder; tampering with evidence; possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon
The suspects are set to have their first appearance in court at 1 p.m. on Thursday.
