Sam Burgess has been arrested after allegedly failing a roadside drug test while on his way to pick up his young children. The premiership-winning South Sydney Rabbitohs captain was charged on Monday with driving an unregistered vehicle without a valid Australian license.
He was pulled over just 10 minutes drive from where his ex-wife Phoebe Hooke lives with their two young children, Poppy and Billy. The embattled NRL star was meant to pick up his children at 2 pm, after missing a first collection time at 9 am, according to The Australian.
According to The Daily Telegraph’s Cydonee Mardon, Burgess returned a positive roadside drug test for cocaine, and that he has never held a New South Wales driver’s license. The results of the drug test, and a subsequent oral fluid test, have been sent away for further analysis.

Burgess returned a positive result for cocaine in a roadside drug test. NSW Police confirmed in a statement that Burgess was charged with driving an unregistered car, along with other offenses.
“Officers from The Hume Traffic and Highway Patrol were conducting traffic enforcement duties on the Hume Highway, Braemar when they stopped a BMW X5 and spoke to the driver, a 32-year-old man,” the statement read.

The charges come just three weeks after Burgess was found guilty of intimidating his father-in-law after a heated clash out the front of the Hooke family home in the aftermath of his messy break-up with Phoebe.
Burgess was sentenced to a two-year community corrections order and given a two-year apprehended violence order. The two-year community correction requires him to be of good behavior and accept anger management support.

The star said he was confused by the decision’ and ‘would be appealing’ outside of court. As per reports, he was pulled over by police on the Hume Highway in the Southern Highlands at about 1.30 pm on Monday while driving his BMW X5.
