Mass Rochester Shooting Leave 2 Dead and 14 Wounded, Police Say

Two people have been killed and 14 others wounded after Rochester shooting at a house party in the state of New York, police said early Saturday morning.

Police in the city of Rochester said they arrived to find around 100 people running down a street in what Acting Rochester Police Chief Mark Simmons described as a “very chaotic scene”.

“We could see and observe multiple victims of gunshot wounds at that time”, he said.

The neighborhood where the shooting happened is near the Rochester Public Market, according to a report in the Democrat & Chronicle.

“This is truly a tragedy of epic proportions”, acting police chief Mark Simmons told reporters on Saturday.

Rochester Shooting Under Investigation

No suspects have been arrested over Saturday’s shooting and no motive has been identified.

Mr. Simmons said the two victims, a man and a woman who has not been named, were aged between 18 and 22. None of the 14 others who were shot suffered life-threatening injuries.

The event that was taking place when the shooting occurred was “some type of backyard party,” Simmons said. Police were not aware of the party and had not received any calls for the disturbance.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Parties remain prohibited under New York state’s coronavirus restrictions, according to Rochester city’s website.

“This is yet another tragedy where individuals are having these illegal, unsanctioned house parties taking place in these properties, which number one is not safe because of COVID”, said Mr. Simmons.
