Jessie Moore is named as the heavily pregnant woman who allegedly murdered her aunt, Victorian greyhound trainer, Karen Leek, in a pool of her own blood on Tuesday, May 26, according to police. She has reportedly been charged with murder.

Moore is 25 years old as of 2020.

Jessie Moore and her five-year-old daughter had been living with Ms Leek, who assisted with childcare.

At the time of Leek’s death, she had been living and caring for her five-year-old great niece.

The 69-year-old was last seen alive about 5 pm last Monday – 17 hours before her body was discovered.

Young heavily pregnant Moore is eight days away from giving birth and didn’t want to come up from the cells, her lawyer told Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday.

She was interviewed over Leek’s death a week ago. However, she was charged with murder on Thursday.

Homicide detectives spent more than 30 hours combing the home for clues and a police helicopter was also used to exami the property. Police are probing the circumstances of Ms Leek’s child care situation as part of their investigation into her death, The Herald Sun reported.

Ms Leek started her career at greyhound training and racing when she was only 13 and went on to be a leading pioneer in the sport.

She had also helped breed some of Australia’s superstar greyhounds including Bewildering, Moreira and Nolen.

Leek’s family confirmed that they have been kept in the dark by Victoria Police about the investigation.

“We don’t know what to do with it – we haven’t been told anything. We’re grieving”, relative Codie Moore claimed.

Another friend, who is also the chair of Greyhound Racing Victoria, said the industry had been ‘rocked’ by Ms Leek’s death.

“She was an amazing person, it’s such a massive loss for us”, Peita Duncan told Nine News.
