More than two months later a cause of death has still not been released publicly but investigators are said to be treating it as a potential homicide. Investigators first believed that Sicknick was hit in the head with a fire extinguisher, based on statements collected early in the investigation.
However, a video shows Khater and Tanios standing near Sicknick and other officers on the Capitol’s Lower West Terrace during the insurrection, according to court filings obtained by the Post. Prosecutors said Khater could be heard telling Tanios: ‘Give me that bear s**t.’

George Pierre Tanios Arrested
Khater and Tanios are each facing nine charges, including assaulting Sicknick and the other two officers with a deadly weapon, civil disorder and obstruction of a Congressional proceeding. The men are expected to make their first appearance in court on Monday afternoon.
Court documents said the men were apprehended after tipsters contacted the FBI and identified them in ‘wanted’ posters released by authorities.
Brian Sicknick Autopsy
Sicknick, who was 42 years old at the time of death, died on January 7, hours after he faced off with Donald Trump supporters at the US Capitol. Capitol Police said he ‘was injured while physically engaging with protesters’ and collapsed after he had returned to his office following the riot.
Initial media reports suggested that Sicknick had died of injuries sustained when he was bludgeoned by a fire extinguisher during the chaos. But sources close to the investigation recently told the Post that Sicknick did not die of blunt force trauma – calling the entire fire extinguisher narrative into question.
Authorities still have yet to release an autopsy for Sicknick as the investigation remains ongoing.
