Eddie Lovins is identified as the suspect who shot and wounded two sheriff’s deputies in Colorado on Friday after they were responding to the home of a suspect who allegedly had been making threatening calls to officials in Tennessee, according to a report.

Both Pueblo County deputies were treated for their wounds and eventually released from a hospital, KOAA-TV of Pueblo, Colo., reported.

One deputy suffered a head wound while the other was struck in his left shoulder, the report said.

Two deputies with the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office were hurt when a gunman opened fire during a standoff. It happened on New Year’s Day in Pueblo West on Tenderfoot Lane.

Eddie Lovins was reportedly calling in threats to Tennessee State Patrol and the Tennessee Capitol building. The suspect was taken into custody and the home evacuated while investigators searched for possible explosives at the home. The bomb squad was called to the home and after hours of searching turned up nothing, they cleared the home.

Lovins was previously familiar to authorities. He was taken into custody after authorities struck him with a non-lethal round intended to “neutralize” him.

Neighbors asked to shelter in place were allowed to resume their normal activities. The home where the standoff occurred has been cordoned off. What sparked the standoff and subsequent shooting is being investigated. The injured deputies were rushed to the hospital, one with injuries to the head and the other with injuries to the shoulder.

The sheriff’s office spokesman said, “They are going to make a full recovery.”

Investigators said the suspect, identified as Eddie Lovins wasn’t just shooting at the deputies, because they found bullet holes in vehicles and surrounding homes.

“He continued to fire rounds from inside his home,” said one Pueblo Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

Lovins is a veteran. He is facing several charges including attempted murder.

The deputies were identified as Deputy Nicolas Berumen and Sgt. Josh Rude. Both were released from the hospital on Friday night.
