Davon De-Andre Turner Arson in March

Minnesota man Davon De-Andre Turner pleaded guilty Friday after authorities accused him of helping set fire to the Third Precinct headquarters of the Minneapolis Police Department last May.

The May 28 fire occurred during a night of rioting 2 days after George Floyd died in police custody in the city. The blaze caused around $12 million in damage and forced police to work out of temporary space, prosecutors have said, according to FOX 9 in Minneapolis.

The fire heavily damaged the Third Precinct, as crowds grew and unrest escalated in Minneapolis in the days following the death of George Floyd. Prosecutors believe the four men breached a fence and entered the Third Precinct building on the night of May 28 as crowds shouted “burn it down” outside.

Turner was indicted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office back in August, along with three other men in their 20s.

Two of them were previously charged in federal court with aiding and abetting arson.

Davon De-Andre Turner Convicted

Turner was convicted on one count of conspiracy to commit arson. He admitted to district Judge Patrick J. Schiltz that he and another rioter lit an incendiary device that he took inside the precinct to start the fire, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced.

The indictment alleged that Turner and another man lit Molotov cocktails and brought them into the building to start a fire.

After Turner has entered a guilty plea, his sentencing will take place on May 13, 2021. He is scheduled to be sentenced in May and faces 41 to 51 months in prison, according to FOX 9.
