Daniel Anderl was best known as the son of U.S District Judge Esther Salas in New Jersey. He was a junior student at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C, and he made the university’s School of Arts and Science’s Dean’s List for the spring semester. He recently turned 20 years old last week.
Daniel was born to parents, federal Judge Esther Salas, and criminal defense attorney Mark Anderl, 63.
Daniel Anderl as a Teammate and Person
20-year-old Anderl graduated cum laude from the high school in 2018 with a cumulative grade-point average above 3.8 during his four years.
He was a left-handed pitcher on St. Joseph’s 2017 Greater Middlesex Conference baseball tournament championship team, and the following season was among the league’s leaders with a 1.50 ERA.
Tom Hennessy, Anderl’s pitching coach at St. Joseph, claimed: “He was brilliant and probably one of the smartest kids I ever met”.
“He showed up every day excited to be there and to help the team win and be a good teammate. He always had a lot of energy. He was a wonderful kid”, Murray said.
Daniel Anderl Allegedly Shot During a Fatal Attack at His Home
Judge Salas was at home on Sunday around 5 p.m when Daniel and his father, Mark, were shot by a man, currently considered as a FedEx driver, Chief District Judge Freda Wolfson told the Associated Press.
Daniel was pronounced dead at the moment while Mark was seriously wounded inside the family’s North Brunswick Township home in North Brunswick, New Jersey, CBS New York reports
Salas was not injured in the shooting, which federal and local law enforcement agencies are investigating.
The university’s residence life department called Anderl “a great person, son, student, resident and friend.”
The investigations are going on, and a motive for the shooting is still unknown.
Suspect Shooter Identified By Sources
The suspect was reportedly identified as the 72-year-old “anti-feminist” lawyer Roy Den Hollander, whose body was later found dead with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in Sullivan County, about a two-hour drive from the scene of the shooting, Sources told CBS New York.
Hollander gained a level of notoriety having sued over ladies’ night drink specials, which he claimed were discriminatory. He also had a years-long case before Salas in which he was contesting the government’s refusal to allow women to register for the military draft.
He was an attorney who had a case before Anderl’s mother, federal judge Esther Salas, in court in 2015.
