Chance Black was a man of Martin, Tennessee who was shot dead person of interest David Vowell after the bodies of  Black and 25-year-old Zachary Grooms were discovered on the north end of Reelfoot Lake in Obion County, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said.

Vowell, who is considered “armed and dangerous”, is being sought in connection to a double homicide at a lake early Monday, investigators said.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, agents are searching for 70-year-old David Vowell of Martin in connection with a double homicide at Reelfoot Lake. The TBI considers Vowell to be armed and dangerous.

Anyone who was on or near the north end of Reelfoot Lake and heard or saw anything or knows the whereabouts of Vowell is urged to contact the TBI at 1-800-TBI-FIND. The TBI said Chance Black and Zachery Grooms of Weakley County were killed on Reelfoot Lake Monday morning, January 25.

Reelfoot Lake Shooting

The TBI said Chance Black, 26, and Zachery Grooms, 25, both of Weakley County, were killed in an incident that occurred on Reelfoot Lake in the northwest corner of Tennesee.

The TBI has not said how the men were killed but is asking anyone who was near the north end of Reelfoot Lake this morning and heard or saw anything that might help agents to call 1-800-TBI-FIND.

“A lot of hunters come in here and they enjoy the duck hunting and all, but to be upset over somebody shooting more ducks or whatever the case may have been, I don’t know,” Gray said.

Shooting at Reelfoot Lake

Spread over 15,000 acres, Reelfoot Lake is a flooded forest that is part of Reelfoot Lake State Park, located in the northwest corner of the state. The park is known for activities such as fishing, boating, wildlife viewing and camping, according to Tennessee State Parks.

Investigators asked anyone with information on Vowell’s whereabouts to call 1-800-TBI-FIND.

Agents also asked anyone who was on or near the north end of Reelfoot Lake on Monday morning and heard or saw anything to call investigators.

The investigation is ongoing.
