Aya Hachem is identified as the Salford University Law student who was allegedly shot down in a drive-by shooting after she was found ‘unresponsive’ on the ground when gunshots were heard in the area around King Street on Sunday. According to reports, Aya’s family had fled from war-torn Lebanon to UK after her father was shot in the back during rebel fighting. She was also a young trustee with the Children’s Society.

Aya Hachem Family History
According to family friends, Hachem’s father, Ismail Hachem, arrived in the UK 10 years ago looking for safety after he was shot in crossfire in Lebanon.
Today it emerged that her father, spent nine years as an asylum seeker. After years of hard work he received his British citizenship last year.
Ms Hachem was the eldest of four siblings, had arrived in the UK with her family as refugees after fleeing Lebanon when she was still a girl.
A neighbour claimed that the Aya and her family had only arrived in the UK ‘six or seven years ago’ after fleeing Lebanon.
Aya Hachem Education Career
Hachem had excelled at high school in Blackburn and had dreamed of becoming a solicitor after completing her degree. She had just completed her exams and was learning to drive.
She recently passed her second-year law exams at the University of Salford and was the Vice Chairperson of the university’s law society.
Aya Hachem Shot Dead By Drive-by Gunmen Around King Street
The 19-year-old law student was reportedly shot dead after multiple shots were fired from a vehicle as she walked to a Lidl supermarket near her home in Blackburn, Lancashire, on Sunday.
She was rushed to a nearby hospital after emergency services were called to the scene in King Street at around 3 pm. However, she could not survive.
On Tuesday, Lancashire Police said a post-examination showed she died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Aya’s mother Samar said: “Our beautiful 19-year-old daughter Aya has been taken from us in the most horrific circumstances”.
Aya Hachem Suspect Killers
According to police, men, who are believed to be 33, 36 and 39 years old, had been suspected over Aya’s murder. They were taken into custody on Monday.
Aya Hachem Tribute
Reports show that her body will be sent to Lebanon for her burial.
Her father paid tribute to his ‘strong’ daughter in a Facebook post: “My strong daughter lawyer Aya Ismail Hashem God’s mercy on your pure soul”.
Hachem’s former school paid tribute to her as ‘a beautiful young girl who fled her home country in search for a better life in the UK’.
Witnesses to the tragedy claim the gunman was firing at the Quick Tyre and Quick Shine car wash, but missed and instead shot the University of Salford student.
Ms Hachem was reportedly near her home when she was shot. It is believed that she was ‘shot to the floor from a car window’ as she walked down the street.
A vehicle matching its description – a light-coloured, possibly metallic green Toyota Avensis – was found abandoned on Wellington Road, a short distance away from the scene.
